Woman charged with DWI after driving drunk with children in car

Posted on May 16th, 2011 No Comments

A 44-year-old woman from Canton, North Carolina was recently indicted by a grand jury for driving drunk with her two young children in the car.

The woman was formally charged with five counts of felony aggravated DWI and two counts of DWI. The charges stem from an incident in February in which the woman was found to have a blood-alcohol content of 0.23 percent while driving with her 7- and 12-year-old children in the car.

The felony indictment comes from Leandra’s Law, which states that a first-time DWI offender must be charged with a felony DWI when caught driving with passengers under the age of 15 in the car.
