Raleigh police on the watch for drunk drivers during Super Bowl

Posted on February 9th, 2014 No Comments

The Raleigh Police Department stated it would be on alert for drunk drivers on the road during Super Bowl Weekend, having taken at least 18 people into custody and given out 43 charges by Saturday morning, February 1 at a checkpoint on Glenwood Avenue with the help of other law enforcement agencies.

According to research conducted by the Raleigh police, DWI arrests have been known to increase during Super Bowl Sundays, so the police force will practice “extreme vigilance” when patrolling the roads, especially after the game , police spokesman Jim Sughrue said.

Sughrue added that police analysts who have studied data for the past three Super Bowls have “noted a slight increase” in DWI arrests as compared with a normal Sunday.
