Raleigh man pleads not guilty to fatal St. Patrick’s Day DUI accident

In Wake County court, Ray Norman Rouse IV, 35, plead not guilty to second-degree murder on Monday, March 10.

Norman was charged with felony second-degree murder after a 2013 St. Patrick’s Day fatal DWI accident that killed Gaynell Batton Bailey, 79, and her husband, Orson Jackson Bailey, 83.

According to the Raleigh police, in March of 2013 the Baileys were walking east on Wade Avenue around 1 p.m. when Rouse struck them driving at a speed of 43 mph. At the time of the accident Rouse’s blood alcohol content measured at .17%, more than twice the legal limit in North Carolina.

Rouse’s trial date was scheduled for the week of September 15.
