Man sentenced to jail for causing DWI-related deaths

Posted on March 27th, 2013 No Comments

Jacksonville resident Christopher Cash, Jr., 28, was sentenced to 12 to 19 years of imprisonment by an Onslow County jury on Monday, February 5, for causing the deaths of two of his coworkers—49-year-old Jerry Jackson and 24-year-old Kevin Embler—by driving under the influence of alcohol.

In a week-long trial, Assistant District Attorneys J.B. Askins and Kristin Cook were able to present evidence that Cash was drunk when he drove his vehicle, a Volkswagen Jetta, which carried the two victims, his fiancée, and his younger brother away from a bar on Old Maplehurst Road, and subsequently crashed his car on Pony Farm Road the night of Jan. 6, 2012.

Cash was apparently driving at a speed of 75 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone when the accident occurred. Jeff Cash, the defendant’s younger brother, was also indicted for murder in an unrelated case and is awaiting trial in Randolph County.
