I-440 car accident counts rise to 2 within a week

Posted on November 11th, 2013 No Comments

Twenty-three-year-old Hunter Howell has been charged with driving while impaired in relation to a serious car accident that blocked part of the beltline for several hours in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 440 in North Carolina between New Bern Avenue and U.S. Route 264 on Saturday, November 2.

Two people, Shelby Wallace and Marvin Pendergraph, were hospitalized and listed under critical condition due to the accident, which occurred at around 4 a.m.

This is the second accident in less than a week in this area; the first was on Sunday, October 27. A man was accused of driving in the wrong direction, causing him to hit another car along I-440 and cause a fatality. The victim, who was identified as 20-year-old Elizabeth Camille Bullock, was instantly killed at the scene of the head-on collision.

Bullock’s friend Taylor Thomas said they will try to write to the city government and local authorities for more lighting in that area of the highway so as to help avoid further accidents in the future.
