Former trooper found guilty of DWI

Posted on May 1st, 2012 No Comments

A 37 year-old retired North Carolina State Trooper and police officer was found guilty of driving while impaired last week after he caused a car accident while on codeine and Ambien. According to the man, he said the last thing he remembers is taking his medication and going to bed.

While the man thought he was sleeping, he had actually gone out and started driving. He rear-ended a car and pulled over to inspect the damage with the other driver. The woman says he appeared lost, unsteady on his feet, and had slurred speech.

A judge found him guilty of DWI because he did not tell his physician he was taking codeine before he was prescribed Ambien. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail, ordered to pay a fine and court costs, complete 24 hours of community service, and must give up his driver’s license.
