Drunk driving arrests increase ten fold

Posted on December 5th, 2011 No Comments

According to the North Carolina State Patrol, drunk driving arrests increased ten fold during the Thanksgiving weekend compared to last year in Durham and Granville counties.

In 2010, six drivers were issued citations. This year, between November 23 to November 26, fifty-nine drivers received drunk driving charges. Officers started a project called Operation Nighthawk to get intoxicated drivers off the road. The increase in arrests are in part due to the increase number of troopers on the road this year.

An additional sixty-one drivers’ license citations, fifty-six seat belt charges, and two felony charges were issued over the three day period. Officers consider Operation Nighthawk a success and plan on conducting similar projects like it in the future.

"Jim, I just wanted to thank you again for everything you did for me. I am very happy about the outcome and would recommend you to anyone and everyone who has a DUI case. Two things that stuck out the most is your patience and honesty, you wanted the best for me and that was obvious."
