Councilman found guilty of drunk driving

Posted on January 16th, 2012 No Comments

A 24 year-old councilman for Apex Town Council was found guilty of drunk driving following his arrest last February. However, he says he plans on appealing the conviction.

A state trooper arrested the man for driving while impaired after he witnessed the councilman’s car swerve and crash into a ditch. The councilman says his GERD, or gastroesophageal reflux disease, is to blame for the allegedly inaccurate breathalyzer reading. He was registered with a blood alcohol content of 0.11, above the 0.08 legal limit.

He was originally sentenced to 30 days in jail, but his sentence was lowered to 12 months unsupervised probation, 24 hours of community service, and a $100 fine.
