Breathalyzers May Give Inaccurate Blood-Alcohol Content Readings

Posted on April 6th, 2011 No Comments

Evidence has been found recently to show that there have been several cases of breathalyzers giving inaccurate readings of a person’s blood-alcohol content. In Philadelphia, ¬†hundreds of DUI convictions may be overturned in light of this new evidence.

The cause for the breathalyzers’ inaccurate readings is that they may not be calibrated correctly. One test in particular, the Intoxilyzer 5000, was found to be miscalibrated, telling officers that a driver had a blood-alcohol content 20 percent higher than it actually was. One statistic found that at least half of the people in jail for DUIs had a flawed blood-alcohol content reading.

Because of the mistake of a machine, people could be forced to pay thousands of dollars in fines, spend time in jail, and lose their licenses.

If you or someone you love has been charged with a DWI after taking a breathalyzer test, please contact the Raleigh DWI test defense lawyers of the Law Office of Jim Black at 919-600-4609.
